Games create memories that stay with us! I just returned from a conference that several of my co-workers and i attended. Over the last two days everyone who has greeted us has asked how the trip was and if we had a good time. It seems that the response from those attending is always the same, ” the conference was good” the games were great.
Through some stroke of brilliance we decided to take and X-box 360 with a couple of first person shooter games, as well as some sports games. We spent the day in the conference and would race back to the hotel to battle it our for a few hours every evening. We learned a lot from the conference and have many action items to work on to improve our business, but what we talk about in our free time are the games that we played.
The most interesting fact for me is that we had left a cold weather climate and traveled to a beachside resort. Over the course of the 4 days that we were there we spent a total of 20 minutes at the beach and that was because we accidently arrived at the conferece 20 minutes early one morning. So the imposing question is, why would we spend so much time playing games together when there were so many other interesting and novel things to do?
Here are some reasons that games make memories that stick
1.) Games foster a competative atmosthpere that most people enjoy
2.) Games allow someone to win and for that moment they are on top of the world
3.) Games bring us closer to those that we play with
4.) When we play games we are reminded of the previous memories we have made while playing and then are generally fond memories.
A few years ago my family and i took a trip to a beautiful resort in Cabo San Lucas Mexico. We spent 8 days at the resort and did some amazing things. We clearly spent lots of time at the beach, sight seeing, shopping, snorkling and just plain having a great time. Every night we would gather on one of the balcony’s and play a card game. The game and variation would change every night, but we would always play and it was a riot.
After returning home my wife decided to do a scrap book layout about our trip for an article that she was writing. She asked everyone who was on the vacation to write down their top ten memories of the trip. You won’t be surprised to learn that playing card games in the evenings was on every single list. I find it interesting that on two occasions i have been in tropical paradises with friends and family and on both occasions playing games together was as much fun as exploring the wonders of a new locations.
Playing Games together with friends and family create memories that stick!
